Traveling to Ireland with Your Pet: A Hassle-Free Guide from AHC UK North

To take your pet dog from the UK to Ireland, ensure you meet the following requirements:

  1. Microchip

  2. Valid rabies vaccination (at least 21 days before travel if it's the first vaccination)

  3. An Animal Health Certificate or EU Pet Passport

  4. Tapeworm treatment witnessed by a vet between 1-5 days (24-120hrs) before travel

  5. You must notify the Irish Department of Agriculture at least 24 hours before travel by emailing petmove@agriculture.gov.ie with your travel details and pet information

For a pet cat, the same requirements apply, but no tapeworm treatment is needed.

At AHC UK North, we’ll witness the tapeworm treatment free of charge if it’s done at the time of issuing the AHC. We ask you to bring the tapeworm treatment to your appointment, which must include praziquantel. And don’t forget a tasty treat to hide it in!
